The fourth grade garden is a learning tool available to all students in the grade level. It is located behind C building. It has a collection of different plants and is broken in to three sections. The area closest to C-4 is the native plant section. These plants were brought to Hawaii by birds, air currents, and ocean currents. Some of these plants can only be found in Hawaii. The Hawaiians named these plants and used them for many different purposes. The second section has plants brought by the Polynesians, who were later called Hawaiians. These plants, often called "canoe" plants, were brought by the Hawaiians on their voyaging canoes. Each plant was brought because it was important to their culture and way of life. The third section is made up of recently introduced plants. Some of these plants played a major part in Hawaii's modern history. It is the hope that by having this garden, students will learn to appreciate and understand Hawaii as it is today.
